Picture Book Indies
What is an "Indie?"
The word "indie" is short for "independent." It means any person, organization or industry not belonging to or affiliated with a commercial or professional enterprise of the same nature." In short, it just means you don't "belong to the man."
What is a Picture Book Indie?
In our case, a Picture Book Indie is any picture book author or illustrator writing or illustrating in any children's picture book genre, but doing so in a freelance, contract or consultant basis.
How Do I Get My Profile on "Picture Book Indies?"
It's easy. Just EMAIL US HERE, or CLICK HERE to go to the Picture Book Indie Page.
Once you reach out by email, we'll send you directions on how to get your Indie profile on the site FREE OF CHARGE.
What Info Should I Include on My Indie Profile?
You'll want people to know who you are, what you write, how many books you've written, whether they're digital or print...that sort of thing. But don't worry, we'll give you the complete scoop on what to include once you EMAIL US HERE.
Publish Your Cover
How Much Does It Cost?
That's a great question that we just can't answer. During our initial test phase, it won't cost anything. Later, as requests increase and the work load expands, we may need to charge a small amount. Just enjoy the fact that it's free...for now.
What Does It Mean to "Publish Your Cover?"
"Publish Your Cover" means that Picture Book Depot is giving you the opportunity to tell the world about your new book by uploading your book cover to the site. Your cover will be placed on a shelf where site visitors can browse books the same way you browse books in the library. Visitors can also read a brief summary about the book, and can click on your link to be whisked to your site to make an order.
Does "Publishing My Cover" Guarantee Sales?
Unfortunately, no, it only guarantees exposure. To get sales, you'll need to tweet, post on FaceBook, network, conduct seminars, host book signings, make school visits, attend book fairs, sponsor give-aways, do radio and television appearances, and do everything else and more that traditionally-published writers do to get noticed.
How Long Will My Cover Stay on The Shelf?
Covers will remain on the shelf for 30 days. That time can be extended, at our Staff's discretion. When and if a fee is ever charged to publish your cover, writers can opt to pay an additional fee to keep their book on the shelf.
What If My Information is Wrong?
Good question. We strongly urge you to double-check your information before submitting it to Picture Book Depot. Be sure your link is correct, and that it's not broken. Be sure your target age is correct and that you send us a clear, crisp, high-resolution book cover saved as a JPG or PNG. Just be fore-warned that once we open the flood gates for free advertisements, there won't be a lot of time to go back and correct information.
Why Isn't My Cover Showing?
There could be one of several reasons your cover isn't showing:
1. Your 30 days on the bookshelf are up.
2. You submitted a cover that falls outside our guidelines (i.e., we only accept children's book covers. No racism, politics, religion, etc.).
3. You did not follow our submission rules.
4. You submitted links that lead to malware or infected sites.
5. You did not include a back-link or blog-roll link to our site, as agreed upon when you received the information leaflet about how to submit your cover.
6. An editor has deemed your cover unsuitable for the site.

How Can I Become a Reviewer?
We're going to answer your question with a question: Do you like to read? If you do, you're already half-way there. You're probably wondering why we asked, but you would be surprised how many people have approached The Depot about reviewing books who later confessed that they don't even like to read. They just wanted access to the free books.
If you love reading and you're good at expressing yourself, reviewing may be for you. Just click HERE TO DOWNLOAD OUR PDF APPLICATION that explains what you need to do to start the ball rolling.
Who Are Your Reviewers?
Our Reviewers are a big bunch of generous and sweet book-lovers who are always on the lookout for a good read. They volunteer their time and opinions, and they set their own time-frames for completing book reviews. They each have diverse interests and preferences, so if you're thinking of asking for a review, be sure you study each bio first. You can find bios at this link: http://picturebookdepot.com/pages/our-reviewers/
What Types of Books Do You Review?
Well...we're called "Picture Book Depot," so that should give you a clue. We love picture books of all kinds; BIG picture books, small picture books, board books, comic books, graphic novels...you name it, we love it. And target age doesn't matter; we've reviewed wonderful picture books from Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated Kids, and even Time Life. We've reviewed poetry books, chapter books, even puzzle books, so in other words, if it's a picture book, we'll love it!
How Fast Are Your Reviewers? I'm in A Hurry!
Our reviewers are only as fast as they care to be. What we mean is, there are always books stacked in some corner waiting to be reviewed at Picture Book Depot. When the books are assigned to reviewers, they're assigned with the knowledge that the reviewers have lives outside of the Picture Book Depot arena, and books just don't always get first priority. That being said, we've never had a reviewer to accept a book and then disappear into the sunset. You can usually expect a review within 3 weeks of the book's arrival, and you'll know when that is because our reviewers always email to let you know the book has arrived.
Self-Published Books

What's Your Definition of Self-Published?
"Self-publishing" is to have complete responsibility for the writing, editing, printing and/or marketing of any book or other media created by the author of the work, without the involvement of an established third-party publisher. Everything is generally done at the expense of the author.
Why Won't You Review Self-Published Books?
We just won't. Nothing personal. In the meantime, we do want to help, so we have introduced a new program to publish book covers for self-published authors. CLICK HERE for details.

This is our choice, and we won't change it. Period. If you have a problem with this policy, Picture Book Depot is probably not the website for you.
