Do Spiders Need Leggins When It’s Cold Outside?

So, do spiders need leggins when it’s cold outside? Well, do they? It’s an important question, you know. But perhaps even more important is just how warm and fuzzy this book really is.

Do Spiders Need Leggins When It’s Cold Outside? by Terri Sebastian, is a delightful collection of fun and imaginative stories for and about a sleepy child’s most dreaded subject: Beddy-bye time! There’s the “Good night, sleep tight” story, complete with cute little bed bugs you shouldn’t let bite; there are crocodiles you’ll see “after awhile;” and there is even a “Noise in my dresser” story that explains in the cutest, quirkiest way what those noises are that little ears hear as your child valiantly fights off sleep. There are other stories too, but perhaps the cutest one of all is the “Spider” story, about how spiders need leggings when it’s cold outside, just like you and me.

This is a great book for lap time and wind-down time, and is sure to become one of your sleepy-one’s favorites. The illustrations, by artist Button Boggs, have a familiar warmth that is both soft and comforting. Boggs outdoes herself with pumpkins and alligators sharing beds, great white elephants hanging onto tree limbs for dear life, and spider-fashionistas sporting the latest in spider leggings.

Perhaps the sweetest and most touching thing about this book is the person to whom it is dedicated – Sebastian’s son, Ryan. When precocious Ryan turned three, he began asking all sorts of questions instead of going to sleep like a sleepy boy should. Sebastian had to do something, so she began writing little stories to answer his questions. But it was when Ryan posed his most famous question of all, “Do spiders need leggings when it’s cold outside?” that Sebastian knew she had stumbled upon the title to her children’s book!

Ryan is gone now, but Sebastian never forgot the stories he inspired. Now she makes these precious stories available to a whole new generation of mothers who need help getting their wide-eyed children to wind down from a busy day and drift off to sleep.

Want to lull your little one to sleep? Just settle down on your favorite chair, snuggle up with your little one, and read Do Spiders Need Leggins When It’s Cold Outside? by Terri Sebastian.

Best wishes…and don’t let the bed bugs bite!
