Pink Me Up, by author-illustrator Charise Mericle Harper, is a father-daughter bonding book disguised in a pink bunny suit.
In the story, a pink-loving girl bunny named Violet plans to go to a pink-nic with her mom, only to discover her mom has fallen ill, complete with pink spots on her bunny face. Her only alternative is to go to the pink-nic with her dad. But since he is a boy bunny and very “un-pink,” she has to “pink him up” first.
Together, Violet and her father create the perfect pink outfit. They use scissors and tape, draw polka dots, and even wrap daddy’s shoes in pink wrapping paper to finish off the outfit.
Before you know it…her daddy is PINK! He takes Violet to the pink-nic, and they have the time of their lives. But best of all, all the other girl bunnies want to be just like Violet and “pink” up their daddies, too.
